{"id":36,"date":"2016-07-06T20:27:14","date_gmt":"2016-07-06T20:27:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chief-exec.com\/?p=36"},"modified":"2016-09-16T17:39:27","modified_gmt":"2016-09-16T17:39:27","slug":"make-paris-the-capital-of-smart-finance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chief-exec.com\/?p=36","title":{"rendered":"\u201cMake Paris the Capital of Smart Finance\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>France is pulling out all the stops to make Paris the go to destination for business<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The steps France is taking to become the favoured destination for UK financial companies that choose to leave the City of London, and the UK more generally, have been set out by Premier Ministre Manuel Valls.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">While the attributes of Paris are well known, it is also recognised that higher taxes and, generally, lower levels of English are weaknesses that weigh heavily against the French capital in comparison to Dublin and Frankfurt \u2013 two destinations competing for the post-Brexit expatriation of UK business.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday\u2019s speech by M Valls addressed these issues directly.<\/p>\n<p>As reported in <a href=\"http:\/\/abonnes.lemonde.fr\/referendum-sur-le-brexit\/article\/2016\/07\/06\/brexit-les-annonces-du-gouvernement-francais-pour-attirer-les-entreprises-britanniques_4965035_4872498.html?xtmc=place_de_paris_brexit&amp;xtcr=1\" target=\"_blank\">Le Monde<\/a> the measures taken will include:-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tax reductions for salaried staff who relocate from the UK. These will last for eight years, together with a tax-free benefit for those that choose to relocate.<\/li>\n<li>A cut in company tax from 33 per cent to 28 per cent &#8211; still high in comparison to competing countries, but expect further moves on this in the future, together with other financial instruments to encourage investment and innovation.<\/li>\n<li>The creation of a \u201cOne-Stop-Shop\u201d to further support the interested enterprises and their staff. There will be help with housing and schooling, plus the necessary administrative support to facilitate the transfer of commercial activity to France.<\/li>\n<li>Create as many places as necessary to allow UK children to be educated in international schools in their mother tongue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These measures are expected to be in place by \u201cla rentr\u00e9e\u201d \u00a0&#8211; the great return from the vacations at the end of August when the French workplace returns to normal.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/en.businessfrance.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\">Business France<\/a> will be the agency acting as the single point of contact.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>In chief-exec.com\u2019s opinion:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Any decision to relocate will depend on a variety of factors; not least market access constraints that might exist after post-Brexit negotiations.\u00a0 What we present here is a first look at the options.<\/p>\n<p>Several European cities are actively courting the relocation of UK business and the features and benefits they offer are likely to change.\u00a0 So it would be wise to wait and see what is on the table and our journalists will keep you up to date with what\u2019s on the menu.<\/p>\n<p>As far as Paris is concerned, it is indeed a wonderful city where daily life is embedded in an outstanding cultural and historical environment.\u00a0 Rather like London, but agreeably smaller.\u00a0 Transport infrastructures, especially the TGV and Eurostar are already impressive and set to improve further.\u00a0 Healthcare services in France are excellent and a very good education is on offer.\u00a0 Universities provide a pool of talented graduates, with mathematics being considered outstanding on a global scale.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chief-exec.com\/resources\/Paris-Region-Key-Figures-2016.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Paris Region Key Figures 2016<\/a> offers an informative guide to the city\u2019s business and social life.<\/p>\n<p>One thing on the horizon is the presidential election scheduled for April &#8211; May 2017.\u00a0 The <em>Front National<\/em> candidate Marine Le Pen &#8211; actively promoting Frexit and a close association with Donald Trump &#8211; has the wind in her sails, benefiting from a similar mix of discontent that led to the Brexit outcome.\u00a0 It is possible that Le Pen could pass though and even win the first round of the election to face a two party play-off.\u00a0 Her likely <em>Les R\u00e9publicains <\/em>opponent could be either former president Nicholas Sarkozy or Alain Jupp\u00e9, the mayor or Bordeaux and former prime minister.
